Are You Having the Same Fight Over and Over?

Have you ever finished an argument and thought:

"How did we end up here...again?"

Maybe this week's disagreement was about money.

Last week's was about chores.

The week before that was about the kids.

Different topics.

Same hurt.

One of the things I often help couples recognize is that recurring arguments usually aren't about the surface issue. They're about the deeper emotions underneath it.

One partner is asking, "Can I count on you?"

The other is asking, "Will I ever feel like enough?"

Neither question gets answered because neither question gets asked.

Instead, frustration speaks louder than vulnerability.

If this sounds familiar, here's one question I'd encourage you to ask before your next disagreement:

"What am I really hoping my partner understands right now?"

That single question has opened the door to some of the most meaningful conversations I've witnessed in therapy.

Healing doesn't begin when you stop disagreeing.

It begins when you stop assuming and start understanding.
